CAPD

CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis)
There is an alternative method to hemodialysis that can be used in the dialysis process. It is called CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis). In this method, the tube is not placed in the arm, but in the abdominal cavity.

CAPD begins with the surgeon making a small hole near the patient's belly button. This small hole is used to insert a tube (catheter) into the abdominal cavity (peritoneal cavity). The catheter will be left in the abdominal cavity so that the patient can perform the dialysis process on their own without having to go back and forth to the hospital.
